Supervisor's Message
As we move through November and into the holiday season, I find myself reflecting on what makes Somers such a remarkable place to call home. It’s not just our history or our landscape — it’s the people. It’s the way our community leans in when there’s work to be done, celebrates together when there’s something to be proud of, and looks out for one another through every season.
This past year, we’ve invested in projects that protect our future, pursued funding that eases the burden on taxpayers, strengthened services families count on, and continued to keep Somers safe, stable, and connected. These aren’t just government accomplishments — they’re community accomplishments. They reflect what happens when we work with purpose and stay committed to the long-term well-being of this town.
As Thanksgiving approaches, I’m grateful for the trust you’ve placed in me, the conversations we’ve shared, and the pride you bring to Somers everyday. We’ve built real momentum this year, and I’m excited for what we will continue to achieve together.
Wishing you and your families a warm, peaceful, and meaningful holiday season.

Supervisor, Town of Somers
Feature Story: November in Somers
November is always a meaningful month here in Somers. It’s a time where reflection meets forward motion — when we honor our veterans, prepare for the holidays, and take stock of everything we’ve built together over the past year.
This month, our work touches every part of town: responsible budgeting, major grant applications, investments in infrastructure and community spaces, and progress on some of Somers’ most iconic landmarks. As we head toward the close of 2025, we’re finishing strong — with real improvements, responsible planning, and a united vision for what comes next.
Here’s a look at what’s happening across Somers right now.
Town Projects & Community Investments
We’re in the final stages of the 2025 budget process, and our priorities remain the same: protect taxpayers, maintain essential services, and continue investing in the long-term infrastructure that keeps Somers strong.
We’re currently tracking a 2.5% increase in this year’s budget, positioned to remain fully compliant with the state tax cap. The Town of Somers has met the tax cap every year since its inception in 2012 — a record of responsible budgeting that continues today. For added perspective, over the past four budget cycles under my administration, the average annual increase has been 2.29%,reflecting our ongoing commitment to affordability and stability.
A full breakdown of the budget will be reviewed during our Work Session on December 4.
Grants & Long-Term Funding
We’re applying for a federal Section 5310 grant to replace a transportation van that has exceeded its service life.
Why it matters:
This van is vital for seniors and residents with disabilities. A replacement ensures reliable access to medical appointments, essential errands, and community programs — keeping people connected, supported, and independent.

We’re pursuing funding to develop a master plan for the open space around the Reynolds House.
Why it matters:
This plan will help preserve the character of the property while creating a thoughtful vision for future enhancements — walking areas, passive recreation, and public space families can enjoy. It balances preservation with community use.
We’re applying for a CREST Capital Reimbursement Grant to expand and improve sidewalks in the center of town.
Why it matters:
A walkable town center has been a longtime goal for residents. Improving sidewalks supports safety, boosts local businesses, encourages healthy activity, and strengthens the small-town feel that defines Somers.
We’re applying for MWRR funding to modernize our organic recycling yard.
Why it matters:
This upgrade improves how we handle leaves and brush, reduces disposal costs, protects the environment, and creates a cleaner, easier system for residents. It’s a long-term investment in both sustainability and town operations.
Town Facilities & Infrastructure

Restoration of the Elephant Hotel continues to move forward. We’re finalizing assessments and preparing improvements that protect this national landmark and ensure it remains one of Somers’ most iconic and treasured buildings.
We’ve reached a new agreement with CSEA, providing stability for our workforce and ensuring residents continue to receive high-quality services. It’s a responsible agreement that supports staff while protecting taxpayers.
We’re advancing a major HVAC upgrade at the Somers Library to improve comfort, energy efficiency, and long-term reliability. Final timelines will be shared as approvals are completed.
Community Celebrations & Recognition
Our 250th anniversary planning is underway, and we’ve already secured the fireworks contract to ensure a high-quality show at a responsible cost.
One fan-favorite returns:
The Somers Independence Day Celebration — “The Backyard BBQ” — is back at Reis Park on Wednesday, July 1st.
It’s a beloved tradition and the perfect kickoff to a milestone year.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at Bailey Park for the Veterans Day Parade and ceremony. It was an honor to reflect on the bravery and sacrifices of our service members.

We’re proud that Assemblyman Matt Slater selected Roland Ciofrone of Somers for induction into the Veterans Hall of Fame. His dedication to service reflects the very best of our community.
Roland is a Retired Lance Corporal of the U.S. Marines. He is a family man and always willing to help his neighbors and others. He was an intricate part of the building of Somers Veterans Memorial. As a master electrician, he was responsible for the beautiful lighting at the memorial and flags. We are grateful to have him serve as a member of the Somers Veterans Committee.

Susan Cody, Glenn Hintze and Denis Timone will be representing Somers at the Westchester County 2025 Senior Hall of Fame Ceremony. They are part of the 61 deserving seniors in Westchester County's Hall of Fame's Class of 2025.
Ceremony - Friday, December 5, 2025 @ 11:30AM, Westchester Marriott, Tarrytown
