The project involves the replacement of a deteriorating culvert located beneath Route 202 at Warren Street. A culvert is a critical piece of infrastructure that allows water to safely pass beneath the roadway. Like bridges, roads, and drainage systems, culverts have a lifespan and must be repaired or replaced when they no longer meet safety and engineering standards.
According to the New York State Department of Transportation, the existing culvert has reached the point where replacement is necessary. This is not a cosmetic improvement or a convenience project. It is a critical infrastructure and public safety project designed to ensure the long-term integrity of the roadway and the drainage system beneath it.
Town officials will continue coordinating with NYSDOT, emergency services, and project stakeholders to minimize impacts on residents and keep the community informed as construction gets underway.
